Sony hasn’t hesitated to state that most of its PlayStation to PC ports have been reasonably successful so far. In fact, the company has only redoubled its efforts since its first steps in the PC market, and it is already quite obvious that this will continue in the future as well.
However, the details of the success of Sony have been the subject of much debate so far. Although some sales figures for the ports of PlayStation for pcSony’s latest data provides some much-needed context on how successful the company has been in this regard.
Video game analyst Benji-Sales has just published an article about the latest video game briefing. Sony, in which the company has revealed that it expects very important growth in PCs for the next fiscal year. According to the featured slide, Sony earned $108.9 million in revenue from its three biggest releases for pc until now.
Interestingly, the huge growth forecast for FY22 further underscores the idea that more PC ports could come from PlayStation in the very near future.
Of course, Sony recently acquired a studio dedicated to ports for pc, so it’s not too surprising that the company expects its investments to translate into increased revenue. However, the exact extent of the success of PlayStation on PC it was previously unheard of, and provides additional context to Sony’s recent openness to porting games like God of War and Uncharted on a platform it’s had very limited experience with in the past.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that God of War developers convinced Sony that the PC was a potential growth vector, and it was explained that the company was initially very hesitant about it.
Now that the initial investment is paying off, the decision to start looking into a full-fledged PlayStation PC division looks more interesting to Sony than ever, and a lot more ports should come out in the next couple of years.
