Sony suffered a ransomware attack and important data is in the possession of a group of hackers. They would soon sell them on the dark web, given the company’s decision not to pay for them.
Behind everything is the group Ransomed.vc, which has been in operation since September, reports the specialized portal Cyber Security Connect.
“Sony Group Corporation, formerly Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation and Sony Corporation, is a Japanese multinational conglomerate headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, Japan. “We have successfully compromised all Sony systems,” the hackers wrote on their leak sites.
“We will sell the data, because Sony does not want to pay. The data is for sale”, they added threateningly.
According to Cyber Security Connect, Ransomed.vc published a file tree of the entire leak, with about 6 thousand files, so it is thought that there was no hacking of “all Sony systems.”
As evidence shown by cybercriminals, screenshots of an internal login page can be seen, an internal PowerPoint presentation with testbed details and Java files.
Sony indicated, in statements to IGN, that it is “investigating the situation. “We have no further comment at this time.”
Ransomed.vc included a “publication date” of the data, for this September 28. If no one buys them, the hackers would release them for free, which would give more people access to manipulate them.
Cyber Security Connect points out that cybercriminals are ransomware operators in their own right, as well as a ransomware organization as a service.
They are defined as “a safe solution for address data security vulnerabilities within companies.”
How will it all end? How many people could be affected if all Sony data is published?
