Sony has chosen to recover the iconic Walkman, but the first models will start at 1,500 euros.
Back in 1979, Sony officially launched the first model of its Walkman on the market. With a price that, as a general rule, ranged between 100 and 200 euros, these instruments allowed users to enjoy an important musical repertoire housed in the radio cassetteswith the possibility of reproducing it in stereo thanks to headphones.
The concept tried to evolve to mobile devices, and the truth is that over the years and the rise of streaming it has been somewhat forgotten. However, Sony has recently surprised by announcing the return of the classic Walkman, only in this case they will be more oriented to the music fan sector, and will start at 1,500 euros.
So are the new Walkman players presented by Sony: up to 2,900 euros and bathed in gold
With this renewal, Sony has chosen to completely renew the concept of the Walkman that were so popular during the 80s and 90s. Although they will not be on sale for a few months, for the moment the firm has announced its intention to “help you get the best music experience” through the Walkmanespecially with his first device in the range Signature Series.
The first Walkman released by Sony focuses on the best audio features for the most demanding. Is about a device aimed at reproducing lossless audio or lossless, which offers a much more complete experience. In addition, thanks to the brand’s technology, it is possible to achieve much more defined tones at the hearing level, which will offer a better experience when playing content.
To this we must add Sony’s efforts to adapt to current times: the new Walkmans have a touch screen on the front, and it is possible to access the playback of streaming content without any problem. Without a doubt, it is a very risky concept, taking into account the price of these devices but also similar failures such as Apple’s with the iPod touch.
Although the idea as such may sound good, the biggest problem that the new Walkman will face is its price. The firm’s first player, known as NW-WM1ZM2should go on sale in April and will be priced It will start from 1,600 dollars (about 1,500 euros) for the model with 128 GB storage. And, as if that were not enough, there will also be a more careful and gold-plated version, whose price starts at 3,200 dollars (about 2,900 euros)although it is true that this model comes with 256 GB of storage.
On the basic skills, it will be possible to expand them also by means of SD cardssomething that is probably necessary for users who have a wide repertoire of music lossless. Nevertheless, prices make new Walkmans not so affordableorienting them fundamentally to music professionals.
