The new Sono Sion, the long-awaited solar car from Sono Motors, will not be made in Germany. The young company has established an important strategic agreement with Valmet so that its first car will be produced in series in facilities located in Finland. The Sono Sion reserves have already exceeded the barrier of 15,000 units.

A model that, after the strategic agreement established between Sono Motors and Valmet, will not be manufactured in German territory.
Where will the Sono Motors solar car be manufactured? The serial production process will take place in the Valmet facilities in Finland. More specifically in Uusikaupunki. An important agreement that changes the company’s original plans, which were to manufacture its long-awaited model in Sweden together with NEVS, Evergrande’s electric vehicle division. However, the financial situation that the Chinese giant is going through forced it to look for an alternative.
Production of the new Sono Sion will start in 2023
Sono Motors has also confirmed that the production of your solar electric vehicle
(SEV) will start sometime in the second half of 2023. The Finnish manufacturer will provide Sono Motors, in addition to its extensive experience, a production capacity of almost 260,000 vehicles for a period of 7 years. Taking into account the role that Sono Motors will play in the competitive European market, it is a more than acceptable figure. All reservations already made will retain the originally agreed price.
Right now a small fleet of validation vehicles is being built in Germany. Once these units are operational, the Sion testing program will begin. The exterior of the car will be covered by a total of 456 semi-solar cells perfectly integrated into the bodywork. In the words of the company itself, they will allow obtaining enough energy to be self-sufficient when making small trips.
The autonomy of the Sono Sion solar car
The energy generated by the solar cells will make it possible to extend the estimated autonomy of 305 kilometers offered by the 54 kWh battery on an average of up to 245 km a week. Sono Motors ensures that drivers in urban areas will have to charge their car up to four times less compared to a conventional electric car.
