After yesterday’s impressive keynote, we are still discovering details about the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros. Computers that both inside and outside show a very significant evolution of the range and of which, as the days go by, we will discover even more details.
Several interesting details that did not fit in the presentation
Yesterday’s presentation lasted about 45 minutes. Much information was given, sometimes at great speed, in those 45 minutes. Now, with a little more calm, we can explore specs and look at the details to go completing the image we have of the new Macs.
- A notch that can disappear: Yes, the rumors affirmed it, but we were all surprised to see the notch of the new MacBook Pro. A notch, however, that can disappear as a full screen. Although developers are invited to take advantage of all the space on the screen, the system also allows a black band to be drawn on the sides of the notch, making it disappear. This mode is activated automatically if the system detects information in the area that the notch is going to occupy.
- Improved headphone port: The headphone port on the new Macs is now more capable. The connector offers support for high-impedance headphones, such as those from Sennheiser or Beyerdynamic companies, for example, which will offer much superior sound.
- HDMI 2.0 port: The HDMI port included in the newer Macs uses version 2.0 instead of 2.1. This means that we can connect a 4K screen refreshed at 60 Hz.
- Two charger options: The new 14-inch MacBook Pro offers two possible chargers: one with 67 W and the other with 96 W. In the entry model we can choose between both, in the most powerful models only the 96 W one is included. it is necessary to opt for the one of 96 W.
- A 140 W charger: The 16-inch MacBook Pro charger goes from the previous model’s 96W to 140W. The most powerful charger of any Mac.
- Charge via USB-C: New Macs can be charged via USB-C. In the case of the 14-inch model we can achieve fast charging through USB-C, in the case of the 16-inch we must resort, necessarily, to the MagSafe.
- Ten more hours of battery life: The new 16-inch MacBook Pros reach a battery life of 21 hours. If we take into account that the previous model, from 2019, offered only 11, we can practically say that the battery life has doubled.
- More displays, depending on the chip: The new MacBook Pro with the M1 Pro chip supports up to two external displays with a resolution of up to 6K @ 60Hz, while the new MacBook Pro with the M1 Max chip supports up to three external displays with a resolution of up to 6K and one external display with a resolution up to 4K @ 60Hz.
- Mentions of High Power mode follow: Although not directly discussed in the presentation, the latest macOS Monterey beta continues to mention a high-power mode for the Mac. A mode in which, according to the same code, “Your Mac will optimize performance to better support the tasks that They consume a lot of resources. This can result in louder fan noise. “
These are at the moment the most striking details of the new Macs that we did not see mentioned in yesterday’s keynote. Details that, for sure, will be the first of a list that will continue to grow even after the new computers officially arrive. Computers that really take the Mac much further.
