Team Penske will be in charge of managing Porsche’s LMDh prototypes on their return to the premier endurance class in 2023. Until then, in parallel to the testing program of this prototype, the American structure will compete in preparation for the LMP2 class of the WEC. It will do so with an Oreca 07-Gibson and a lineup of high-flying pilots. Tim Cindric, president of Team Penske, has pointed out regarding the program that will allow the team to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time in more than 50 years: «We want to learn as much as we can about the WEC in 2022, as many of our rivals have competed in the series for many years. Much like the approach we took in 2017 when we returned to sports car racing after eight years, we believe that the LMP2 class gives us a means to gain valuable experience».
