The Transformers movie kicked off a fairly successful saga directed by Michael Bay. Now the director reveals how the projections with the public were.
In 2007 it premiered transformers, an action movie where the fight scenes of the giant robots stood out. The box office was spectacular, as it grossed more than 709 million dollars, which is why up to 4 more movies and a spin-off were filmed. The actors were changing, but the tone and the great special effects remained.
Now Michael Bay is promoting his new movie Ambulance. escape planbut in a recent interview he wanted to reflect on the first time he saw Transformers with an audience.
I’m telling you, here’s a little trick. When directors make a shortlist of their movies, we’re testing them, you see what the audiences feel and all that, and I have the sound there, you want to vomit.
“Every director wants to throw up the first time a large audience sees that thing. And you will see people walking slowly in the test, and you will want to grab them… No, no, no. Waiting. There is a great scene. If you miss this scene, you’ll miss everything.”
“So it’s intense, like Transformers. So, two rooms, 400 people in each room, starting 15 minutes apart or something. Now I’m watching it with a bunch of families and kids, and I’m like: Okay, it’s a goofy robot movie. Oh my God. It’s just a kids movie. Oh man. Oh what did I do? It gets a great score and it wasn’t finished. Then I go to the theater next door, I have the sound and there’s an empty seat and there’s a guy, whatever. This is more of an adult room, and I look at the guy and ask: Do you like this movie? And he says, Meh.
“And I say: Oh, this is terrible. I just made a terrible movie. Whatever. In the end Transformers got a huge matching score, like a 94. It’s a spectacular movie score.”
