A new mid-range processor has just been added to the general catalog available on the market. It is the Exynos 880 , a chip made by Samsung that promises a very interesting power, connectivity and efficiency. It is the little brother of the Exynos 980, so it is a very interesting processor. It wants to compete with the rest of the mid-range chips from Qualcomm and MediaTek . Will he succeed? Is it an interesting processor?
Exynos 880, the chip of the next Galaxy A?
One of the peculiarities of this chip is that it includes the same 5G modem as the Exynos 980 . Yes, it has support for these networks, so it is intended for premium mid-range devices. It is manufactured in an 8nm process and has 8 cores: 2 ARM Cortex-A76 at 2.0 GHz and 6 ARM Cortex-A55 at 1.8 GHz . These latter cores are intended to offer good efficiency when the device needs normal performance. When the device requires more power, the Cortex-A76 comes into play .
The chip is compatible with LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.1 storage . They are not the most advanced memory media, but they are more than enough for the mid-range devices for which it is intended.
For games, the Mali G76 MP5 stands out , a GPU that promises good performance for the most playful users. Samsung has optimized the processor in order to reduce loading times and thus get a better processor for games . Still, this is not listed as a gaming processor. This GPU supports displays with a maximum resolution of 2520 x 1080 pixels.
The image processor supports a 64 megapixel camera or a dual 20 + 20 megapixel camera. It can record in 4K resolution up to 30 fps and uses AI to reduce image processing times.
Lastly, the processor includes everything you can expect from such a chip: dual-band Wi-Fi, 5G, Bluetooth 5.0, and more . It is an interesting chip for the premium mid-range, but we still do not know how it will behave against its competition. This Exynos 880 has a tough time, as Qualcomm and MediaTek are offering processors with incredible performance.
The Exynos 880 is already being mass-produced and the first device to mount it is the Vivo Y70s , a terminal from which we will have to draw conclusions in the near future. What do you think of this new Samsung processor? Do you think you can stand up to the rest of the processors? Tell us more in the comments or on social media!
