Snapchat stopped promoting the account of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, under the “Discover” tab.
According to the company, the account of the US president will no longer be promoted, since “it will not amplify the voices that incite racial violence and injustice.“
The company Snap Inc, owner of the application, reported that the Trump account will remain intact, but it will not be promoted to other users in the news or stories section.
Previously, the president’s account appeared in the “Discover” section along with accounts from other high-profile users such as celebrity Kim Kardashian, actor Kevin Hart, and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Evan Spiegel, executive director of Snap, addressed an extensive message to his employees and criticized the way Trump used Twitter to refer to the episode triggered by the murder of George Floyd.
“We will make clear in our actions that there is no gray area when it comes to racism, violence and injustice. We simply cannot promote accounts in the United States that are linked to people who incite racial violence, whether they do it inside or outside our platform, “ added Spiegel.
However, the businessman pointed out that Snap will not delete accounts despite the exponential increase that the social network has had after the global coronavirus pandemic.
The company reported in April that its number of daily active users had grown faster than expected, reaching 229 million people.
