We love practical and functional houses that adapt to the needs of their inhabitants. And for that reason, today we set our deco radar on this integral reform that the team of the interior designer Pia Capdevila has made in this 135 m2 house located in Barcelona.
The reform of the house required a complete redistribution of spaces to adapt them to the needs of the new owners. Although the original structure of the house has not been modified, the distribution has been changed in order to achieve the three double bedrooms and three bathrooms that were requested.
Storage capacity has been one of the priority needs to be covered within this comprehensive reform. For this reason, the interior design studio has custom-designed almost all the furniture in the house in order to maximize the available space.
Panels, screens and sliding glass doors to communicate the day area
The day area of this house has been designed in the same visual space that includes the hall, the living room, the dining room and the kitchen. These four rooms communicate with each other through panels, screens and doors
glazed sliders. With this flexible enclosure system, it has been possible for each of the spaces that make up the day area to be open or closed according to the need of each moment and thus gain maximum visual amplitude.
With this new distribution and the space separation design, it has been possible to bring the natural light from the main facade (located in the living room space), to the dining room, the kitchen and the hall.
A multifunctional hall (and with a sliding door)
The receiver of the house was too big compared to the living room and dining room, so Pia Capdevila decided to keep a space as a hall, but with an original custom designed furniture that has managed to give visual amplitude to the floor, resulting in a space
very original, decorative and especially functional in terms of capacity and
storage.
Custom furniture in the hall includes a coat closet, a
shoe drawer and an area that hides the electric meters. Also, the sliding door that separates the hall from the house and gives direct access to the dining room has been designed so that it can be in three different positions depending on the needs of each moment.
In this way, it can move to the right to give direct access to the dining room and at the same time close off the kitchen space, move to the left to close off the hall from the rest of the house and leave the kitchen open to the dining room, or remain fixed in the middle as a separating screen for the three rooms, but with ample space for comfortable access to each of them.
In the kitchen stands out the same stone color that can also be seen in the hall or in the dining room, although in this case, combined with a green tone that can be seen in the base units or in the wallpaper both in the kitchen and in the laundry room.
The kitchen has been worked with a very small and subtle linear frame. The decorative touch of the kitchen is carried out by the showcase with glass doors to match the glass door-screen that separates the zones from the day zone and that allows the entrance of light.
From the kitchen there is access to a small laundry room, with custom-designed furniture in green to match green leaf wallpaper in the same tones.
The dining room and the living room
The dining space separates the kitchen and the hall from the living room. Due to the peculiarities of this space, Pia Capdevila has chosen a square dining table with an extendable wood design, accompanied by a combination of chairs and benches around the table to give it a different and unconventional air.
The living room It has an elongated plant, so a six-seater sofa accompanied by a chaise longue vintage style and wooden auxiliary furniture in tune with that of the dining area and the hall. The colors of the chaise longue are repeated in the dining room benches and in the curtains, and the green stripes of the dining room bench cushions match the different textiles chosen in the living room.
Opposite, a custom furniture with a large storage capacity that includes an open bookcase with closed spaces in the lower area, a large space for the TV area and, next to the large window, a desk as a work area. The picture window It gives access to a small exterior balcony, and provides natural light to the entire day area.
A terrace that hides the air conditioning machine
The terrace of this house had to house the air conditioning machines, so the space had to be optimized to the maximum. To achieve this, the interior designer has designed a wooden box that allows the machinery to be hidden with an attached bench, thus managing to hide the air conditioning while creating a small area to relax outside.
the night area
The night area has a system of hidden sliding doors that allow the areas to be opened and closed depending on needs and the time of day. Two of the rooms in the house are en-suite and the third has the bathroom outside so that it can also function as a
courtesy toilet.
From the dining area, the master bedroom is accessed through an anteroom that acts as a large dressing room. The sleeping area is compact to give more space and capacity to the dressing room.
The interior layout of the dressing room cabinets has been fully customized, installing interior lighting to improve comfort. The bronze, stone and marble knobs and the door frames achieve an elegant and sober result.
From the dressing room there is access to the bathroom, a comfortable and functional space with a shower tray and ample furniture with a large support surface. The decorative point is given by the mirrors and the lighting in gold to match the knobs of the dressing room.
In the girl’s bedroom, efforts have been made to optimize the space to maximize storage capacity, which is why custom-made furniture has been designed, including a trundle bed with lower drawers whose headboard becomes a large desk area that matches the with the entrance of natural light from the window and ending in a large capacity closet.
The boy’s bedroom suite is located at the end of the hall, and has
integrated bathroom. In this room, maximum storage capacity has also been sought through custom-made furniture and masculine textiles coordinated with the bathroom finishes.
