This new study explains that late bedtime for children can harm their mental power
Scientists at the University of London found that three-year-olds who go to bed late often have problems in math, reading, and spatial awareness of older children.
According to experts, lack of sleep can alter natural rhythms and affect how the brain can incorporate new information.
According to the researchers, erratic hours are more common when children are three years old (one in five goes to sleep at different times).
When they approach seven, half go to bed almost every day at the same time (between 19:30 and 20:30).
“The message that [the study] leaves us is that routine seems to be really important for children,” explained Amanda Sacker, a professor at University College London and leader of the team of scientists.
“Establishing a good sleep routine in the early years is best, but it’s never too late,” added Sacker.
On the other hand, he clarified that there is no evidence that putting them to sleep long before 19:30 has benefits for the brain.
