We had spent time with the fly behind the ear with that void in which it seemed that we were with Peacock and Paramount +, the respective streaming platforms of Comcast and ViacomCBS and it turns out that the enigma is solved. The two giants of entertainment prepare a joint platform for Europe called SkyShowtime.
Thus, two of the most recognizable brands of each (the European Sky – whose Spanish subsidiary left us a year ago – and the premium cable channel Showtime) are chosen to propose a service that has the SHOWTIME catalog, Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures, Paramount + Originals, Sky Studios, Universal Pictures and Peacock.
Over ten thousand hours of entertainment
SkyShowtime promises, in this way, some ten thousand hours of entertainment between series, movies, programs and other specials of the different brands that will fall on this umbrella. Hopefully this also implies those originals from Peacock and other production companies that have been, for now, orphaned in Spain like ‘Girls5Eva’ or ‘Rutherford Falls’.
According to the official statement, SkyShowtime will include “first shows”, new movies and TV series season releases each month. In addition to local programming, documentaries and factuals.
This new subscription video on demand service is planned to be available in Europe, with Spain among the first territories, throughout 2022. This alliance aims to reach more than 90 million homes spread over this twenty territories for which this entire operation is approved.
Among the countries in which it will land are: Albania, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Finland, Hungary, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Norway, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Romania, Serbia and Sweden.
Quite an interesting move and, in turn, grateful. Now that we are in an era where every major wants their own service seem to realize that you can not always. Or at least not in all territories.
Now a fascinating transition stage will begin seeing how the rest of services are accommodated to the arrival of a new player of this caliber. Movistar +, for example, has quite a few agreements with Universal for its content (and in fact the Sky Originals have them), the same happens with Showtime, which by default reaches the Telefónica television station.
