Skoda’s electrified project and plan is very ambitious, but it works. We see it with an interesting proposal for electric cars, such as the Skoda Enyaq IV, probably one of the most complete of the variant and most significant of its kind. Even with this, the Czech firm is convinced that It is not enough to believe that you are ecologists with their models, but you also have to look like them. Hence some of the newer ones are made from recycled materials… and vegan!
The electric Skoda, ecological
In mid-2021 Skoda presented its approach to the future. An approach that is already in our days and which, as we can see, is seen in a framework of sustainability as the main basis of its electrification project. Focusing on the basic principles of efficiency and simplicity, it not only aims to turn the Czech Republic market into an electric mobility hub…
But also that it be done with the maximum Respect for the enviroment. The reality is that more and more brands are aiming for this movement to be reflected in all possible ways, and that also implies doing it for the materials these vehicles are made of.
In the case of the Czech brand, they have done so with an important step forward. We saw it with the Skoda Enyaq IV (here its technical sheet) the electric one of the electric ones of the house, but also of the models that are to come and the next ones to come.
What is it about
Thus, these zero-emission cars have to be and appear efficient and convey that they are respectful of the environment from many points of view, and not only at the level of propulsion. Therefore, the use of recycled materials in manufacturing and finishing they have gone from being frowned upon to being highly regarded.
This is what happens to the aforementioned Enyaq, the great Skoda electric crossover with which it wants to break with the image that the Volkswagen Group company had until now. They do this with Czech supplier Sage Automotive Interiors from Strakonice, which develops innovative materials that are subsequently used in series production. Among them are fabrics made from recycled plastic bottles.
To achieve the final look, the process is laborious. The bottles are crushed, melted down and turned into granules that are used to create a durable thread. Once on the loom, 6,000 of these threads become a strong fabric. Along with this, it also highlights that parts of its environment, such as the dashboard, are made from beet pulp.
Dashboards made from beet pulp
Or what is the same; now we can find in our vehicle from the Czech firm car parts that are made from beet pulp. This has been done from the manufacturer with the Technical University of Liberec, who have developed and applied for a patent for a raw material made from beet pulp.
It is this that is then shaped to become parts such as the vehicle dashboard itself or the door linings. In addition, they have already obtained another sustainable material from the ‘miscanthus’ cane plant, whose fibers can be processed and used for different parts of the car. At the same time, this is true of things like the cognac-coloured leather from Enyaq’s own ‘ecoSuite’ Design Selection, which is tanned with an extract of Olive leaves.
