For many years we have admired astronomers who venture for a long time into space, in search of finds, discoveries and good news about outer space. However, we have wondered little about the hygiene of scientists. An astronaut has revealed one of the great mysteries about it.
On board the crew of the Shenzhou-13 mission, in the Tinahe module of the Tiangong Space Station, also known as the China Space Station or simply CSS for its acronym in English, Wang Yaping has explained in a video how he washes his hair off Earth.
Clearly this is not as pleasant an experience as blasting your favorite song on your cell phone, in your bathroom, with your preferred shampoo and conditioner. In space there is no gravity, nor the nearest supermarket that has your hair products.
However, in the video that has gone viral on the internet and social media, Wang Yaping proves that he can get by on CSS.
How do astronauts wash their hair?
The astronaut shared the process for washing her hair in orbit, with a special shampoo. Wang uses gloves and a towel so that the liquid covers all of her hair and then pats dry.
In the video, according to the translation of Antenna 3, Wang Yaping claims that it is not easy to wash your hair in space. The process includes, after shampooing, cleaning it with water.
As you can see in the clip, her hair sticks up due to the absence of gravity in space. Therefore, to remove the water, use the glove with a towel to absorb the water. After finishing the wash, he puts the towel on his head and waits for it to dry.
