Category five Hurricane Otis caused catastrophic damage in the port of Acapulco, Guerrero, and in surrounding municipalities, leaving few sources of food and medicine supplies. Due to the above, shortages of essential products are already reported. Given this, various government institutions set up collection centers with the aim of helping the Guerrero population. Among the official institutions where you can make safe donations is the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of Mexico (Sectur).
Currently the Mexican Army works with Plan DN-III-E (Assistance Plan for the Civilian Population in Cases of Disaster) and is in charge of transferring donations to the population of Acapulco (approximately one million people).
If you wish to make a donation, you can go to the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur). Recommended products include:
- Canned food
- Healing material and medicines
- Candles, lighters and matches
- Bottled water
- Diapers
- Powdered and packaged milk
- Soups and instant foods
- Cookies, amaranth, chocolate, coffee and other non-perishable foods
