Marvel’s Secret Wars screenwriter Jim Shooter believes Marvel Studios is preparing an adaptation for the MCU
The Russo brothers have made no secret of their interest in making a Secret Wars movie, and recent discussions with Marvel have left series writer Jim Shooter convinced that an adaptation is on the way.
There has been no word on what Marvel Studios has planned for The Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe following their latest adventure in Avengers: Endgame in 2019, but a Secret Wars adaptation seems inevitable. This could be similar to the original plot or one that is inspired by the sequel that doubles the reality of Jonathan Hickman; however, a combination of both would make sense.
The original writer of Secret warsJim Shooter was recently at the Orlando Megacon convention and was asked if he thinks a version of the event could make it to the big screen.
He began by saying that someone at Marvel recently offered him $ 10,000 to write a novelization of Secret wars before making sure they had obtained the rights to the story. “This clown called me from Marvel. He was not an editor, but a property management executive, which was a bit strange. “Shooter explained. “He asked me if I wanted to write a novelization of Secret Wars.”.
The writer added that he was also sent a retroactive contract employment contract that he declined before David Bogart, senior vice president of Operations and Acquisitions, Marvel Entertainment Publishing, contacted him to apologize. He then offered him $ 10,000, even though Shooter knew full well that his previous contract with the company was work-for-hire (meaning that he has no rights to the characters he created on behalf of the company on the pages of Secret Wars. ).
While Marvel didn’t have to pay him back, David Bogart insisted that he accept the money offered because… why not? “This means you are making a movie, right?” Shooter remembers asking. “I can’t tell you that”, Bogart replied. Shooter revealed that he then said: “Well, I think you just did.”
Interestingly, Marvel didn’t have any documents stating that they owned Beyonder, Titania, Spider-Woman, Spider-Man’s black alien costume, and other elements of the story, so this call was necessary. That’s not to say that any of those characters or concepts are part of the movie version, but it certainly seems like something is brewing based on these comments.
What do you think of Shooter’s statements?
