The “Succession” series generated much more than just business for HBO. From its script related to large corporations and outstanding performances (it won Emmy and Golden Globes), the series caused a true sensation in the industry in its first three seasons.
About the running of a dysfunctional family who owns a global media and entertainment conglomerate, the show is a prime example of the importance of quality content to streaming services and cable TV networks.
With the rise of streaming services, there has been an explosion in the number of shows and Succession is a prime example.
One of the reasons Succession has been so successful is due to the combination of a simple script and complex characters.
The cast, led by Brian Cox as the family patriarch, was also a key factor in its success.
Succession helped HBO stay competitive in a market rife with choice.
With streamers like Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video investing in original content, HBO doesn’t want to give up viewers. The way is the only one the brand knows: producing quality programs.
Succession Season 4
The novelty of this Friday, February 24 in relation to Succession is that, as rumored, the series will come to an end with Season 4.
The head of HBO had advanced something, Casey Bloysbut it has now been confirmed by creator and executive producer Jesse Armstrong, who revealed the news in an interview with The New Yorker.
“I never thought that this could go on forever,” he said in the interview.
He also explained that he feels “conflicted” about bringing the show to an end. “I feel sad, and I have a feeling that the circus has left town. I imagine I’ll be a bit lonely, wandering the streets of London, depressed and wondering: What the hell did I do?” Armstrong added.
On the other hand, it was also confirmed that HBO is not working on any spin-off, as had been unofficially announced by some media.
In season 4, which opens on March 26 the sale of media conglomerate Waystar Royco to tech visionary Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård) looms ever closer.
The sale causes heartbreak and further family division among the Roys as they worry about what their lives will be like once the deal is complete.
First released in 2018, Succession stars Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook, Kieran Culkin, Alan Ruck, Matthew Macfadyen, Nicholas Braun, and J. Smith-Cameron.
