Without a doubt, season 2 of merlin It is one of the most anticipated projects for Netflix and its subscribers. Few imagined that the series starring Jenna Ortega would become one of the most viewed on the platform, and thanks to its success, there are many expectations around the next episodes. But not everything was positive, because some viewers who criticized the absence of scary elements in the series. If you share that sentiment, you’ll be happy to know that things will change for the next season.
In an interview for the segment of Variety, Actors on ActorsJenna Ortega spoke with Elle Fanning about what we can expect in Merlin: Season 2. It is worth mentioning that, on this occasion, Ortega will act as producer, so she will have a greater say in the decisions that are made around the story. And she is already clear where the new plot will go:
“We have decided that we want to lean a little more on the horror aspect of the series. Because it’s so light-hearted, and a show like this with vampires, werewolves and superpowers, you don’t want to take it too seriously.”
Another aspect to take into account is the love triangle of the first season. In several chapters, the romantic plot between Merlina, Tyler Galpin and Xavier Thorpe was not very well received by fans. They considered that it did not contribute much to the development of the series and took away the opportunity for the script to exploit the gothic and horror elements. Even Ortega herself mentioned that the romantic plot did not make sense, and for this reason she came to modify some aspects of the script.
“We’ll get rid of any romantic love interests for Merlina, which is really cool. We have already thrown so many ideas, and I am a very practical person. I want to know what is happening. And with a character like Merlina, who is so beloved and a legend, I really didn’t want to go wrong. So I try to have as many conversations as possible. On set, with the writers and Tim (Burton), we would all come together and decide, ‘Okay, what works and what doesn’t?’ Naturally, I was very collaborative,” added the actress.
So far, this is the first big breakthrough we have about the direction the story will take. Although Jenna Ortega’s participation in the first season was full of controversy and statements where she made it clear that she was not entirely satisfied with the decisions made, it seems that season 2 will be more satisfactory for everyone involved.
What do you think about Jenna Ortega’s ideas for season 2 of merlin? Do you think it was necessary to get rid of the love subplot or was it only required to balance the scripts?
Juan Jose Cruz I am one of those who always defended Robert Pattinson as Batman and can see the same movie in the theater up to 7 times. My guilty pleasure? Low budget horror movie.
