Since its bumpy launch in 2018, the developer of Sea of Thieves, Rare, has managed to stabilize the ship. The transition to a seasonal content model has gone very well for the title, and the upcoming Season 7 will change the pirate adventure even more.
However, in a recent announcement, Rare has announced that the premiere of the new season has been delayed until later this summer. The Season 7 of Sea of Thieves it was announced during the Xbox Showcase event held last month. The new season was going to bring numerous changes to the cosmetic aspect of the pirate title.
Aptly titled Captaincy, the new season will give players the ability to make big changes to their ships, like naming them and changing the look of their cabins. It will also introduce a new form of currency to make it easier to sell loot. The season was scheduled to launch on July 21, but that date has changed.
In a post from the developer, Executive Producer Joe Neate shares an update on the progress of the season. In addition to sharing his enthusiasm and mentioning that the Season 7 was going to bring some big changes, Neate mentions that, as the release got closer, the team realized that many of the upcoming changes needed more time to work on.
He explains that the new season is going to introduce a bunch of new stats to keep track of, and that this requires more collaboration between the “gameplay, UI, and service teams” to make it go smoothly. The new season will be released on August 4.
