Although the debates about the existence or not of extraterrestrials are still on the table of astronomers, a group of scientists in the United Kingdom believes that the time has come to learn to communicate with aliens.
Researchers at the University of Saint Andrews announced a new study to create a human-alien dictionarywith the help of the SETI Post-Detection Hub
According to a report published on the website of hypertextuala team of international experts has been assembled to prepare humanity for alien contact.
They will also work on design a network of “impact assessments, protocols, procedures, and treaties intended to enable humanity to respond responsibly”.
In the official Web of SETI, netizens are greeted with a thought-provoking question: “What will humanity do when we discover that we are not alone in the Cosmos?”.
SETI’s plans
In addition to creating the language with which we will communicate with aliens, SETI also plans to develop a much more detailed and understandable contact protocol for everyone.
The organization explains its objectives by remembering ET, the alien from the well-remembered film: “Will we ever get a message from ET? We do not know”.
John Elliot, specialist and coordinator of the project at SETI, adds: “We also don’t know when it will happen. But we do know that we cannot afford to be poorly prepared – rudderless scientifically, socially and politically – for an event that could become a reality as soon as tomorrow and that we cannot afford to mismanage”.
From SETI they maintain: “The possible discovery of microbial life is likely to raise different kinds of concerns than those that would follow the discovery of intelligent life; as a species, we are not yet ready for the latter”.
“Therefore, the time has come to consider humanity’s response and responsibility following the detection of both life and intelligence in the Cosmoss”.
The scientists conclude:We should plan for this eventuality now by establishing impact assessments, protocols, procedures and treaties designed to enable humanity to respond responsibly.”
