Employees who fake a cold to avoid going to work could be living out the last functional days of their fake excuse. A team of scientists is developing a Artificial intelligence that identifies a flu just by hearing the tone of a person’s voice.
More than discovering workers who cheat their bosses, this mechanism seeks to reduce the number of visits to the doctor, reports the portal insiders. The idea of the researchers is to start with the flu or cold and then evolve towards other types of health conditions.
experts from Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology in Surat, India They say that human speech is characterized by registering harmonic tones that decrease in amplitude as their frequency increases.
The engineers in charge of this project suggest that this pattern is altered in the presence of a viral infection. They analyzed the voice of about 630 people, of whom 111 had a doctor-verified cold.
They were asked, first of all, to count from 1 to 40. Later they had them recite a story and the records were entered by machine learning algorithms so that the system learned to detect who had the flu and who did not.
The results were not that conclusive, but they are quite encouraging. Artificial Intelligence managed to get it right in 70% of the cases, a very good figure for the first tests.
