Technics is a manufacturer specialized in hi-fi sound equipment that, after a somewhat absent season, has made a strong comeback, launching audio systems such as amplifiers, all-inclusive music chains and turntables with a certain retro touch on the market.
This season 2021-2022 the brand will also bet on back in force to the world of HiFi speakers and they have just announced that they will do it with two new models, the SB-G90M2 in tower format and the SB-C600 shelf monitor type.
Technics SB-G90M2
The SB-G90M2 They are a traditional cut stereo loudspeaker system with a tower design and belonging to the manufacturer’s Grand Class Series.
Like its predecessor, the SB-G90, the new version with the surname M2 offers a bass-reflex air outlet system in a 3-way configuration with a 2-way coaxial speaker combining a 25mm dome and a 160mm midrange cone both made of aluminum.
This system is in turn accompanied by two 160 mm woofers, also made of aluminum and which are responsible for reproducing the bass frequencies.
The diaphragm of the coaxial speaker unit has been redesigned using a FEM simulation system (Finite Element Method) to reduce resonance and obtain a more natural midrange, with less distortion. In addition, a Linear Phase Plug system has been added that theoretically eliminates phase disturbances, making the sound pressure of the tweeter more natural.
The entire interior reinforcement structure has also been redesigned at the bottom with a stationary wave termination structure focused on eliminating standing waves while minimizing the use of acoustic damping material.
In terms of specifications, passive speakers offer a frequency response of between 33 Hz and 90 kHz(-10 dB) with a sensitivity of 86 dB (2.83 V / m), an impedance of 4 ohm and a recommended amplification power between 100 and 200 watts.
Technics SB-C600
Technics has also introduced the model SB-C600, a bookshelf-style loudspeaker with a cabinet design 2-way bass-reflex but whose peculiarity is to have only a coaxial transmission unit with a main woofer with diameter 15 cm which is accompanied in turn by a 25 mm tweeter.
The loudspeaker uses a balanced driver mounting architecture (BDMA) that locks the driver to an internal loudspeaker mounting baffle at the center of gravity around the magnet, thus reducing rocking motion and potential unwanted vibrations.
Price and availability
The new SB-C600 will be available from November 2021 with a matte black finish by 999 euros, while the speaker system SB-G90M2 in glossy black finish will be available in Europe from October 2021 for 2,299 euros.
