Dr. Saúl Cuautle Quechol, rector of the Universidad Iberoamericana Mexico City, died this Thursday due to complications derived from Covid-19.
According to what the House of Studies reported through a statement, Cautle Quechol suffered “a massive heart attack as a result of the complications of the disease he faced.”
“Let us pray for the eternal rest of our Father Rector, who, despite his short stay at our university, left an indelible mark. Your IBERO community will remember you with great affection, always ”, was part of what Ibero communicated on its social networks.
Saúl Cuautle Quechol had been elected as rector of said house of studies just a year ago, a position that he would carry out until 2024.
Mexico continues to add infections and deaths from Covid-19, even though the vaccine against the disease is already in circulation.
The Delta variant has been one of those that has hit Mexican society the most and is the one that, at the moment, has us living a new wave of infections that, despite everything, is decreasing little by little.
Just a month ago, the Jesuit priest, Saúl Cuautle Quechol, had been hospitalized because he was infected with the disease, and this day the Ibero-American University confirmed his death through a statement:

Saúl Cuautle Quechol was a Jesuit priest, born in Puebla in 1966. His academic training includes a degree in Philosophy and Social Sciences from the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superior de Oriente, as well as in Theology from Ibero.
He was a teacher of Pedagogy and had a doctorate in Education from the Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid, Spain.
Last year, he was elected as the new rector of the house of studies, being presented at an event attended by the main authorities and university representatives. There, during the appointment, Cuautle Quechol mentioned the following:
“I assume this great commitment, aware of the academic, social and political responsibility of this time. I arrive with good spirits, enthusiasm and hope, and I know that in this, the university community will accompany me ”.
Last August, before the start of a new school year, the Jesuit priest sent a message to the university community, this being the last one issued even before he entered the hospital.
Currently, Mexico continues to add new cases of contagion of the disease; So far and since the pandemic began, the country has registered more than 3,400,000 positive cases, of which more than 260,000 people have died.
Mexico is one of the countries hardest hit by Covid-19 and, today, despite experiencing a reduction in the flow of new infections daily, it is at a yellow traffic light.
From here we add ourselves to the sadness for the unfortunate loss of Saúl Cuautle Quechol, who, since last year, was elected as rector of the university and would have been until 2024.
Rest in peace, Jesuit Father Saúl Cuautle Quechol.
