On May 29, the Government of Baja California announced in Val’Quirico, Tlaxcala, that the Valle de Guadalupe in Ensenada will be the seat of the second Kingdom of Mexico with the new tourist project called Sassi del Valle; and this will have hotels, restaurants, bars, cafes and shops that promote local commerce.
In fact, that the announcement was made in Val’Quirico is no coincidence, since this small artificial town was the first to receive from the federal Ministry of Tourism, the designation of the Kingdom of Mexico, as part of a strategy to promote the national destinations, along the lines of the Magical Towns.
The new Sassi del Valle
The concept of this project will be inspired by the Sassi of Matera, dwellings carved into the rocks of the city of Matera, located in southern Italy, in the Basilicata region. In this way, the new town will have narrow streets lined with stone, buildings with balconies and rustic spaces, honoring the last mission of Italian friars that was established in Baja California between the 19th and 20th centuries.
In the same way as in Val’Quirico and according to the news portal ensenada.net, Sassi del Valle will be developed in 8 hectares of Valle de Guadalupe, on a private property and with an investment of one thousand five hundred million pesos.
In addition, this project aims to consolidate the wine culture of Baja California and offer both national and international visitors a window to learn about the historical and cultural heritage of the state.
