From a few years ago to date, much has been said about how the live action films of the Mystery on Order gang were much more elevated in tone. There is talk of cuts, buried scenes and major changes in the script written by James Gunn. Now the actress Sarah Michelle Gellar confirms the legends and affirms that even LGBT moments were completely censored from the tapes of Scooby Doo.
The actress played Daphne in the two existing films of the saga. Beside him the cast made up of Matthew Lillard, Linda Cardellini and Freddie Prinze Jr, supposedly signed the contract for the initial nature of the script. According to Michelle Gellar, these films were not intended for a child audience. And that detail was what motivated the cast to participate in a project that in the end was completely redesigned.
Also an actress of buffy the vampire slayer, recently reported (via) that there was a scene where his character and Linda Cardellini’s starred in a passionate kiss. However, the sequence was removed from the final edition, at the request of the studio.
“There was a passionate kiss. They cut it. There was an actual kiss between Daphne and Velma that was cut off,” she said. “I feel like the world wants to see it. I do not know where she is “.
Until now, several moments of those films that were lost in oblivion resonate. James Gunn has already recounted in the past that his original script was intended to make Velma an LGBT character.
The studio didn’t just cut out all scenes where Velma’s sexuality was hinted at. Rather, for the second installment, he requested that a narrative be written in which the heroine had a heterosexual romance.
However, Michelle Gellar relates that Velma was not the only LGBT character in the original script. Gunn’s script was intended to portray Fred as a bisexual character. Many jokes and innuendoes about it were contained within the lines.
“There was also a great line that I’ll never forget,” Gellar said. “Daphne and Fred were arguing and I yelled at him, ‘That bandana makes you look gay! I slammed the door. They also cut it. I think that was the reason I signed up for the film. It is something that everyone has thought about for a long time. It has always been hinted that Fred is interested in both parties. Everything was cut off.”
Last year Velma finally got justice. The special one Scooby Doo! Trick or treat featured the character in a gay romance. In this animated movie our favorite detective with glasses and an orange sweater is left speechless after meeting a fashion designer.
This special is available through Google Play. While live action movies Scooby Doo and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters on the Looseare available on HBO Max.
