The Samsung company announced that it will start production of the first generation of 3-nanometer chips. Everything you need to know in this note!
The renowned company Samsung announced that it will start production of the first generation of chips 3 nanometers, one of the latest technological advances if we talk about processors. The chip will be developed thanks to the implementation of the transistor architecture GAA (Gate All Around)which improves energy efficiency.
This technology uses nanosheets with wider channels instead of nanowires with narrower channels to make transistors, a design that allows for improved energy efficiency and performance. If we compare the chips of 5nm with those of 3the latter have an improvement of 23% in performance and consume 45% less energy.
But this is not all, since Samsung announced that they are already thinking about second-generation chips. If we compare the second ones with a 5nm one, the power consumption will drop one fifty%the yield will be 30% and the area occupied by the chip will be reduced to a 35%.
The chips will be produced in conjunction with TSMCand the architecture GAA is of type MBCFET. This means that the voltage of the supplies is reduced and the current capacity of the unit is increased, overcoming the advantages offered by the type FinFET. One of the great advantages of using these chips is that they adapt to the ecosystem SAFE of the company, with which they intend to make everything easier for chip designers such as Nvidia. Now it only remains to wait for the announcement that the next products of Samsung they will come with this type of chip, which is a great innovation on the market.
