15 years after the premiere of Spider-Man 3, Sam Raimi acknowledges that his plan with Spider-Man 4 was a way to apologize to fans after what happened in the 2007 film
Sam Raimi, the filmmaker who marked a turning point with Spider-Man in 2002, returns to the superhero film genre in 2022 with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, after Spider-Man 3 in 2007 was not so well received by the fans.

It is well known that after the release of Spider-Man 3, Sony Pictures rebooted the franchise with The Amazing Spider-Man, which prevented an eventual Spider-Man 4 starring Tobey Maguire and directed by Sam Raimi.
The filmmaker behind such hits as Evil Dead, Darkman, and Oz the Great and Powerful revealed that his idea for Spider-Man 4 would be his way of apologizing to fans for Spider-Man 3.
“I messed up a little bit with the third one, with Spider-Man 3… I had big plans in my head to pay the audience for that, by giving them a great Spider-Man 4. But I couldn’t get a script good enough in time, before it was released. launching”.
This is how Spider-Man 4 was planned
Sam Raimi’s idea for this film was to pit Spidey against Mysterio, who would be played by Bruce Campbell, in addition to The Vulture, a role that was intended for actor John Malkovich.
But Spidey would not have faced these villains alone, since the appearance of Felicia Hardy as Black Cat was contemplated, and Anne Hathaway was thought to take on that role.
Raimi acknowledges that after the not-so-flattering results of Spider-Man 3, it wasn’t easy to watch other superhero movies.
“I had been so immersed (in superhero movies) and had such a bad ending, that it was difficult for me to see more”.
The filmmaker is not denying the possibility of directing Spider-Man 4 with Maguire in the lead role.
“I realized after doing Doctor Strange that anything is possible, really anything in the Marvel universe, any team (is possible). I love Toby. I love Kirsten Dunst. I believe all things are possible”
After 15 years, Raimi returns to work with Marvel on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a film that features a cast led by Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gómez and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will hit theaters on May 5, 2022.
