In a recent interview, the director sam raimi talked about the possibility of one day doing a Spider-Man 4 with Tobey Maguire repeating the role of the wall-crawler.
Although Raimi doesn’t think it will be possible, he admitted that he is completely open to the idea thanks to the inclusion of the multiverse and the fact that the actor has returned to the role in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
I didn’t think it was possible, but after jumping into the multiverse, I’ve realized that anything is possible now, so I’m completely open to it.
Raimi also spoke about what led to the Spider-Man 4 original was canceled and a restart occurred in the form of The Amazing Spider-Man.
Oh yeah, we had a script years ago and were actively working on pre-production. It turned into something where there was a deadline and I didn’t want to do something less than great. I thought he had compromised a little bit already in Spider-Man 3 and wanted to really return the favor to the audience in Spider-Man 4 and make the best Spider-Man ever. And I couldn’t finish the script in that amount of time. So I said to Sony, ‘I think it’s best if you go ahead with your planned alternate history of Spider-Man, because I don’t want to let the public down.’
