As this key year for advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) draws to a close, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, revealed that he is already looking to take the technology one step further.
The company is working on creating a ‘artificial superintelligence‘, an advance that promises to get closer to human cognitive capacity, and also in what will be ChatGPT -5.
Resources are still lacking
In interview with The Financial TimesAltman shared OpenAI’s vision of developing a artificial general intelligence (AGI).
Basically, software that aims to match human intelligence, capable of performing complex actions, from running code to making financial transactions, send emails and more.
“We will make these agents more and more powerful (…) and the actions will be increasingly more complex from here,” indicated the co-creator of ChatGPT.
To support this ambitious project, OpenAI is in talks with its main shareholder, Microsoft, looking for greater financial support.
Microsoft already invested around $10 billion in OpenAI at the beginning of the yearand Altman hopes to secure more funding to fuel the research and development needed for his next plans.
The long journey of Microsoft and OpenAI
According to the aforementioned media, Altman trusts that the CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella, be willing to continue supporting this vision.
But although revenue growth has been positive this year, OpenAI has not yet achieved profits.
Even so, it is expected that both OpenAI and Microsoft reap the economic rewards in the near future.
The path to ‘artificial superintelligence’ has already been outlined, and the collaboration between OpenAI and Microsoft could be fundamental in this evolution of AI.
