The RXR team of Johan Kristoffersson and Mikaela Ahlin-Kottulinsky and the ACCIONA team of Carlos Sainz and Laia Sanz took victory in both heats of classification 2 of the second Island X-Prix. This result together with the different combinations of sanctions that have been given after their dispute and the results of the first classification they leave the two structures within the semifinal 1so the curiosity is served within Extreme E after the accident of Kristoffersson and Sainz in the first Island X-Prix.
Johan Kristofferson managed to beat Sébastien Loeb at the start to take the lead in the first qualifying race. He did not lose the wake of both Kevin Hansen with the JBXE 4×4. The three opted for the main line, while on the alternative path Timmy Hansen spun in his eagerness to stay ahead of Timo Scheider, which also affected the race for XITE Energy. From there, the first turn became a ‘crazy’ chase from Loeb and Hansen to Kristofferssonwithout the Swede giving in to his rivals.
There was also no change of positions in the ‘switch zone’ with the change of pilots, so Mikaela Ahlin-Kottulinsky started the second half of the race ahead of Cristina Gutiérrez. Hedda Hosas lost ground against both of them, although she too, little by little, ‘Tortu’ gave in to the push of the Swedish pilot. Ahlin-Kottulinsky ended up securing the victory for RXR with a 7.8-second advantage over Cristina Gutiérrez. Despite the subsequent sanction, X44 maintained the second position ahead of XITE Energy and JBXE.
Carlos Sainz signed the best start in the second qualifying race against Kyle LeDuc to position yourself as a leader. Nasser Al-Attiyah was third with the CUPRA, followed by Tanner Foust and Christine Giampaoli. He managed to win the Foust game against Al-Attiyah, which in the end was worth it to place second. Kyle LeDuc’s eagerness to overtake Sainz and his search for alternative lines cost the American driver dearly. LeDuc had a spin just before the change of drivers and Hummer Chip Ganassi fell to fourth position.
Laia Sanz started the second half of the race with a certain advantage over Emma Gilmour and Jutta Kleinschmidt. The seven seconds that the Spanish rental treasured became a lifesaver, since the Catalan could regulate the pace on ACCIONA’s Odyssey 21. Laia assured the victory for the Spanish team with 4.7 seconds of rent at the end on the Odyssey 21 McLaren. For its part, Jutta was third with the CUPRA 4×4while Veloce Racing was fourth after the suspension of Chip Ganassi
