The incursion of Russian troops into the territory of Ukraine was a reason to remember a “prediction” of The Simpsons, of which its screenwriter Al Jean speaks
The world is experiencing moments of tension after the military operation that Russia is undertaking in eastern Ukraine, the first large-scale war operation by the government headed by Vladimir Putin since the dissolution of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), something that users of social networks named as another of the predictions of the animated series The Simpsons.

Episode 197 of The Simpsons (broadcast in 1998), entitled Simpson Tide (My dear Captain in Latin America) features this coincidence. After being fired from the Springfield nuclear plant, Homer and his friends decide to join the Navy and are sent to the war games aboard a nuclear submarine.
The admiral of the submarine, before being launched by a torpedo launcher, places Homer as the submarine’s lieutenant and when trying to return to the waters of Springfield Homer mistakenly takes the boat to Russian waters.

This act is considered by the United States as treason and Russia considers it a declaration of war, so the Russian government reveals that it is still the USSR, which leads it to deploy its military apparatus, with the resurrection of Lenin.
This is more than a prediction: Al Jean
The writer of The Simpsons Al Jean, spoke of this episode and described as a sad coincidence the situation that has led Ukraine and Russia to sustain a warlike conflict.
“I hate to say it, but I was born in 1961, so I lived 30 years of my life with the specter of the Soviet Union. So to me this is sadly more of the norm than a prediction. We didn’t think things would go wrong”.
.@TheSimpsons Very sad to say this was not hard to predict: https://t.co/oC9LScSHrU

Jean pointed out that this ‘prediction’ goes into the bad coincidences of historical episodes that humanity would have overcome.
“In terms of predictions, we have two types: the trivial ones, like when Don Mattingly gets in trouble for his hair in ‘Homer at the Bat,’ and then there are the predictions like this… There’s the kind of prediction, where we refer to something what has happened, what will happen again; We hope it doesn’t happen, but unfortunately it does happen.”
