Imagine a military robot dog carrying a rocket launcher It’s not exactly a cute Golden Retriever. Russiahas historically looked for ways to innovate and prepare its military and now he intends to do it with a particular robot.
It was at the Army 2022 military convention, held near Moscow and sponsored by the Ministry of Defense of that country, in which they presented the four-legged robot with a rocket launcher, called M-81 and developed by the company Intellect Machine.
Russian news agency RIA Novostiquoted on the website of PCMagshowed the robot dog, jogging across the convention floor while wielding a rocket-propelled grenade launcher on his back.
The robot is also capable of crouching on the ground, making detection difficult, while presumably waiting to fire a rocket.
Will it be used on the battlefield?
It is unclear if the robot will ever be used on the battlefield, in the midst of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, in which it is already using aerial reconnaissance and targeting drones.
The developers of M-81 claim that The robot dog is being designed to carry weapons and ammunition and shoot them during combat missions.
Interestingly, the company decided to cover the robot dog in a ninja suit. This could have been done to mask the true origin of the machine, which appears to come from a Chinese company called Unitree, which is worth $2,700 and has been described as a knock-off version of Boston Dynamics’ own four-legged robots.
Robot dogs seem to be all the rage in the scientific community. Recently, experts from the University of California, Berkeley, United States, developed a robotic dog with a brain based on artificial intelligencethat among so many things, allowed him to learn to walk in an hour.
