You see, it all starts when the mutant gene from Anna-Marieis activated during a date with a boy she had a crush on: Cody Robbinsa name that would mark her life, since as the night progressed, the girl and the boy began to feel the intense sensations of young love, so she leaned in to kiss Codybut ended up draining his life and leaving him in a coma.
He eventually sought refuge with Professor Xavier and joined the X Men on Uncanny X-Men #171 from Chris Claremont and walt simonsonbut Rogue he already had a history of long, complicated and unsuccessful romantic relationships, but nonetheless, it never stopped him from getting close to Remy LeBeaubetter known as Gambitwho despite knowing the consequences, was an insistent suitor of the mutant.

To which later, between his memories, he finds out about his involvement with Mister Sinisterwhen Gambit recruited the marauderswhich is one of the darkest moments in the history of X Menbecause it marks the step to the Morlock Massacrewhen Mister Sinister asks Gambit that leads to marauders into the tunnels to slaughter the mutant refugee community.
So that Rogue decides to get away from him for a while, and even makes him leave the X Men, for a short period of time. It was then that his trauma only increased the fear of his powers, and in X-Treme X-Men #19, Rogue and Gambitthey lose their mutant powers after an encounter with Vargas.
This helps you Rogue overcome much of their fears, and the two temporarily withdraw from the X Menthey travel and enjoy time together and even meet a young mutant named paintingwhich has powers to tattoo the skin with a simple touch, there Rogue decides to mark herself with the natural designs of paintingcommemorating her time as a powerless heroine.
As expected, the peace does not last, so the couple returns to the X Men to defeat Elijah Boganand sage reactivate the powers of Gambit again, and Rogue’s mutant abilities return, but instead X-Men: Legacy #224the teacher Xavier says that the trauma of meeting Rogue with Codycreated divisions in his mind.
