How do you see the Pacific classic at the Monumental in Chile?
As a fan, coach, instructor, but always knowing beyond what a football game is. Many times I read in the press in your country (Peru) that Alexis Sánchez was no longer the same, so we fell into sensationalism. It’s not normal. For me it is a football match between two teams that have always been classics, matches with a lot of intensity, a lot of strong legs. They are two teams in need, direct rivals, let’s hope it is a nice match and that the one who does things better wins.
La Roja is invincible when it has played with Peru at the Monumental in Colo Colo…
Generational changes are natural. I am not going to put young or good-sized people, you have the best example. Paolo Guerrero is forty years old and is in the national team. Regardless of whether he is fifteen, eighteen or forty, but he is at a competitive level to play for his country, he will do so. Of course, the changes are natural, they are not forced. Many times they want to withdraw players, but it is not the most correct thing to do. Let’s hope it is a match where the important thing is to add, since it becomes complex for both teams.
Paolo Guerrero adds football validity with LDU de Quito and is Peru’s goal hope at 39 years old…
They must be respectful of Paolo, especially when there is a track record, years of sacrifice. You always have to be very sensible when declaring.
How do you define the Peruvian team’s game?
I got to watch Peru’s game against Brazil and it was pretty good. A dynamic, organized team, beyond the goal with a still ball. They are on equal terms, they both add a point, they are in need. Let’s hope it is an attractive match, and that the one who does things better wins.
How do you catalog the Pacific classics?
It will always be a classic, without a doubt, it is not a simple match, nor is it a lie when they say that they are risking their lives. Win or lose, life goes on. Many times that atmosphere is generated outside, on the field it is a complex match, whoever does things better will win. It doesn’t go any further than a football game.
What memories do you have of the games you played with La Roja against the Peruvian team?
Matches with a lot of friction, a lot of intensity, I enjoyed it a lot. I had to play many games with Peru, they are very attractive. Let’s hope it continues in the same way.
The Alianza Lima team always remembers its dedication in the 2006 national championship campaign…
I have the best memories of Peru, of the Alianza fans, the way they treated me. I felt pretty good, I will always remember that. It was a country that treated me and my family well. Happy to be part of the club’s history, and that they remember you to this day, that is priceless. I wish Alianza the best, may they continue to win titles, they will always be a great fan.
