The young start-up has been forced to delay the start of series production and the first deliveries of its first electric model, the Rivian R1T pick-up, for a couple of more months, which also means the delay of its variant SUV, after several consecutive delays.
As it is becoming the industry norm, the young company Rivian Automotive has been forced to announce a further delay in the start of production of what will be its first model available to the public, the Rivian R1T pick-up, whose first deliveries to customers were scheduled for this same month of July.
It has been in a letter addressed to its clients in which the founder and CEO of the company, RJ Scaringe, has confirmed the new delay in the production of both models, mentioning that there are several causes that are interrupting the planned work. Although they all have the same common cause, the delays derived from the pandemic.
In principle, the Rivian R1T and Rivian R1S should have started production in 2020, but due to the health crisis this had to be delayed until the middle of this year. The first of the models to come off the assembly line was to be the pick-up, whose scheduled date was last June, however, the company once again moved the date on the calendar to July, citing similar problems.
New dates
The new production start dates will be next September for the Rivian R1T and at an undetermined time next fall in the case of the SUV body variant. What in principle it simply means adding a couple more months to the scheduled date. As long as the company manages to coordinate all its suppliers and put the finishing touches on its assembly line.
These will not be the first electric models to hit the streets of Rivian Automotive, as that honor falls on the electric delivery van that Rivian has developed and is manufacturing for Amazon. This vehicle began its production only a few months ago and the first manufactured units are being put to the test in several American cities.
