Despite efforts by the World Health Organization (WHO) for boosters of the COVID-19 vaccine to stop until at least the end of September. Some rich countries are already preparing booster doses for citizens.
What countries are they?
Germany, France and Israel will go ahead with their plans to inject boosters of the COVID-19 vaccine. This, regardless of the organization’s call to wait until more people can be immunized around the world.
“The global gap in the supply of the COVID-19 vaccine is hugely uneven. Some countries and regions are asking for millions of booster doses. Before other countries have had supplies to vaccinate their health workers and the most vulnerable ”. Said the Director General of the Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Gebreyesus.
Why is it controversial?
So far these countries have announced booster programs, and WHO estimates that if 11 rich or middle-income countries give their populations a third dose, an additional 800 million vaccines would be needed worldwide.
“High-income countries administered about 50 doses per 100 people in May, and that number has doubled since then, according to the WHO. Low-income countries have only been able to administer 1.5 doses per 100 people, due to lack of supplies ”.
“I understand the concern of all governments to protect their people from the Delta variant. But we cannot accept countries that have already used most of the global supply of vaccines using even more of it, while the 🌍’s most vulnerable people remain unprotected” –@DrTedros

The position of the White House
“I understand the concern of all governments to protect their population from the Delta variant. But we cannot accept that the countries that have already used the majority of the world’s vaccine supply will account for more, ”said Tedros.
Following Tedros’s comments, The White House said Wednesday it was prepared to provide booster injections if needed., suggesting that he would not heed the WHO’s call either.
WHO: The Delta variant is already present in 104 countries
The CEO reported that deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic are on the rise again, after 10 weeks of declines.
“The Delta variant is spreading around the world at a dizzying rate, causing a new spike in COVID-19 cases and deaths.” Tedros said, noting that the variant first detected in India has already been found in more than 104 countries.
GLOBAL CRISIS
“We have to decide what our priority is. What part of ‘this is a global crisis’ are we not understanding? This is still a global crisis, ”added Mike Ryan, WHO’s emergency director. “Right now, we are condemning hundreds of millions of people to have no protection,” he said. “We will look back in anger, and we will look back in shame.”
“They are people who want to have their cake and eat it, and then they want to make more cake and eat it too,” he concluded.
