Grupo Elektra, from the businessman Ricardo Salinas Pliegoreported that it settled a tax credit for 2,772 million pesos (mdp) that it owed to the Tax Administration Service (SAT), corresponding to the 2006 financial year for Income Tax (ISR).
This payment is derived from a resolution of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) dated January 19, which required Grupo Elektra to pay said tax debt.
“In relation to other lawsuits that are still in litigation, as we have already stated on several occasions, we are convinced that we are right and we have every right to disagree with the tax authoritiesTherefore, we will continue with our defense of what we consider to be excessive and erroneous charges”, added Grupo Elektra.
According to media reports, Ricardo Salinas and his companies dispute with the tax authority debts that amount to 40 billion pesos.
Last August, the former head of the SAT, Raquel Buenrostro, confirmed that the debt of 2,700 million pesos had to be paid, as established by the SCJN.
For his part, the president Andrés Manuel López Obrador confirmed in his press conference on October 21 that Ricardo Salinas Pliego’s companies paid a tax credit of 2,772 million pesos and even showed the payment order issued to the SAT.
“I celebrate and appreciate that this judicial mandate is complied with because there was a will to respect the Court’s resolution,” he said.
On the other hand, Ricardo Salinas Pliego said on his Twitter account that he kept his word and that his companies paid “what they say they owed” in taxes.
