The Last of Us is back. Now, Part I of Ellie’s story is in PlayStation 5 format and we reviewed it to tell you our impressions. But before any expectations, you have to understand what the game is: a remake. We have seen that many portals raised the lack of news, when, we insist: it is a remake. And as such, it’s well done. The key question here is: Was it necessary?
We are going to answer it little by little, but while it is a yes: the graphic jump to PlayStation 5 is notorious, well done and believe me that with the right television, the gaming experience is even more enjoyable. If you’ve never played The Last of Us, and want to start with this version, great. Playstation 5 is capable of offering (Dynamic 4K resolution at 60fps or Native 4K at 30fps.
Perhaps it is not “that it was necessary”, but in recent years the remakes have achieved precisely this: bring us great games from past generations with the graphics they deserve. Here the nostalgia factor plays a key role.
The changes
Let’s not forget that this game comes after The Last of Us: Part II. And it seems that its graphic improvements also have a touch of that story. As it looks with better graphics, but with a somewhat more somber, realistic and even cruder tone.
The faces look so much more realistic, it even feels like they’re different. But all “for good”. Even the dialogues and scenes that “hit” us before, now they feel even more. Like a movie. But we insist: it is a remake.
Have we seen better cinematics? Yes. But reviving The Last of Us, improved, is worth it. They still gave us some extra notes that, for those who are not so nostalgic for the game itself, they will appreciate (because yes, there are those who want the remake to not just be a remake and innovate a bit). They added the weapon upgrade table from The Last of Us 2, more weapons, more fun.
Also, the AI of the enemies has been improved, and with this, the difficulty of the game has gone up. This merges both things: improvements in the inventory and the arsenal, the new difficulty invites us to explore all the possibilities of movement through the scenarios to face new attacks on the enemy.
And they added more goodies too: a couple of new modes (perma-death and the ability to time the game for speedrunners) Y an improvement in Photo Mode, practically identical, again, to that of ‘The Last of Us Part II’.
What yes, what not: the result
AND, SPOILER FOR THOSE WHO DID NOT PLAY: The doctor’s modeling in the final scene has been edited to match Abby’s father. It must be recognized that the 3D audio and the accessibility options shine with their own light and are a step forward. But, for example, it is strange that they took advantage of the novelties of the PS5 control and its sensitivity.
Graphic comparison between PS3, PS4 and PS5? You can see it in this video:
In short, if you expect news and “something new” this remake will not give it to you. But if you are one of those people who simply enjoy nostalgia and graphic jumps, this is a must-see. If you never played the video game too: It is the best version of The Last of Us for you to join this adventure at last.
The Last of Us Part I will be released september 2 on PS5 and soon on PC.
