God of War comes to PC so that more people can learn the story of Kratos and Atreus. We play it and we want to tell you everything In this note!
God of war is a game that needs no introduction. One of the great titles of PlayStation arrives on January 14 for the first time on PC so that more users can enjoy the adventure of Kratos and Atreus.
Sequel to God of War 3, released for Play Station 3 and 4, Released in 2018, this game came to “revitalize” the series, with modernized graphics and a much more… human story. It is neither more nor less than one of the most critically acclaimed games in the series.
There is little to say that has not been told … but for years God of war was a game that was only available to those with a PlayStation. Now, PC users will be able to access it through Steam.
God of Daddy Issues
Let’s start the review by talking to those who never played God of War.
The story of God of war follow Kratos, ancient Greek God of War. He is “retired” (so to speak) and lives in the Midgar Forest with his son, Atreus. The second wife of Kratos, Faye, just died and it is the duty of her husband and children to give her a burial. That’s how Atreus Y Kratos They are heading to the mountain … and like the former God of War Now you must face a much more mundane challenge: being a single parent.
Did you notice that the plot can well be adapted to a sitcom? We are going to share with you some sketches that we imagine to present to Play Station …
-ATREUS LET’S TAKE THE ASH TO THE MOUNTAIN
-But father, we still haven’t cremated mom!
-Boy!
* recorded laughs *
If you have unresolved conflicts with your dad, God of war He is going to hit you in the chest. The game shines for the excellent parent-child dynamic that is generated between Atreus and Kratos. The story may have magic, fights, and saving decaying kingdoms ….but the true plot of this game is the relationship between a son who does not know that he is a semi-God and a father who must now be much more present. And hit bugs with an ax, of course.
Kratos is one of the most nuanced characters on PlayStation. The rude, bloodthirsty man, who lifts and breaks rocks without any problem … is also a worried dad and a sad widower. When a stranger in the name of Odin, the Great Norse God, invades the new home of Kratos and Atreus, the excuse of carrying the ashes of Faye the mountain becomes a great leimotiv to get her son away from there and teach him to “be a man.”
Atreus, In stark contrast to his father, he is a gentle and soft-hearted young man. He does not like to kill and avoids violence. How they learn from each other is what makes this game not go unnoticed.
We leave you a bit of our visit to the Santa Monica studios, in the original release of God of War
We are not going to tell you more about the story, but if we anticipate that when trying to carry the happy ashes of FaYgo to the mountain … both will notice that there is something very wrong with the world and it will be your duty to save it.
The best part about this is that while it is a direct continuation game with GoW 3, you don’t need to play the above to enjoy it. Perhaps you have the “incomplete vision”, but do not know the lore of the game makes your experience with what you discover is very “from the eyes of Atreus ”, which is a bit of the grace of this title.
Playing as father and son
At the playability level, it offers a very interesting experience. You will control in third person with a camera very close to the back to -your new father figure- Kratos, yes but Atreus he will be your companion during the journey… and as you teach him more skills, the more he can help you in combat. This dynamic between both characters and how to use the powers of one or the other in your favor, gives it to the experience God of war extra points that make it unique.
The controls for PC fans who like games where everything is hitting A can get a bit confusing at first. Of course we have the option to customize them. This game has a configuration more similar to the Soulslike, with dynamics on the front buttons and triggers.
You will be able to upload the statistics of Kratos and Atreus, and with them equip better weapons or armor. In the long run, you can evolve your characters to have better skills and help you more in combat. Even improve your Leviathan ax and other things you will have along the way.
This time your deadly weapon is this enchanted ax, given to you by your late wife. The combat level is not particularly complicated, more similar to a hack and slash which also involves counterattacking and blocking, rather than strategic combat … at least with bosses and regular monsters.
The map that is open world at times, is full of secrets, puzzles, treasures and even special enemies, which you can explore to get better items. The story alone offers about 20 hours of gameplay… if you’re the one who pays a lot of attention to detail, about 35… and for the platinous, there are up to 60 hours of fun depending on your skill level.
Daddy Issues, yes, but also Performance Issues …
When playing this game we tested it on two PCs. First we use a computer with a processor AMD RYZEN 5 3600 4.2GHz and an Nvidia GeForce 1660ti video card. The game ran smoothly at 60 FPS with the graphics set aloft”. But nevertheless, It must be clarified that during our gaming experience there were moments where the frames fell to less than 30, to the point that it was necessary to restart to regain performance. The version we played was a Beta, so performance may be improved once the final commercial version is available.
We also tested it on the monster we have in the newsroom with an Intel i9 11900K and a Geforce 3080, where obviously it did not suffer any performance problems, but it must be taken into account that it may cost a bit in compus a little old or with medium power.
The fluidity in the graphics of GoW It is quite necessary, since the camera in cinematics has the peculiarity of not being fixed, but of having a slight movement. If your PC is not preforming well, this effect makes the small “brakes” of the camera very noticeable.
We tell you the minimum and recommended requirements to play this game …

Pecs in HD?
Graphics improvements are more noticeable on high-end PCs. On a mid-low range video card, the game will look very similar to what can be seen on a Playstation 4. This of course is not a bad thing, as it is in itself a visually compelling game. From the textures of the characters, the environment and the different games of lights with which we will find. And of course, it doesn’t make the experience any less enjoyable. However this means that – unless you are a mega fan – if you have already played it on a console … perhaps the most reasonable thing to do is buy it once you can play with a high-end video card where we can assure you that it looks really incredible.
conclusion
God of War is a port with decent performance. While the version Beta It presented some problems when we played it, there were more moments where we could comfortably enjoy the story.
It is one of the great titles of Santa Monica Studios for PlayStation and its place in video game history is well earned. If you weren’t able to play it on its original hardware, this is the perfect time to get into this story ahead of the launch of Ragnarok. If you’ve already played it, maybe it’s best to buy it back only if you have state-of-the-art hardware.
