The health crisis disappeared almost 1.2 million formal jobs in Mexico, when adding the falls of 83 thousand 311 positions in June and 344 thousand 526 in May.
In this type of vacancies, advertisers seek to obtain some economic benefit or financial information.
Unfortunately, false job offers are becoming more and more frequent today, which is why a user published a video through TikTok revealing the signs that are key to identifying “scam” job offers.
When are job offers false?
With the publication of these vacancies, advertisers intend to obtain any economic benefit or financial information; however, some of the features of these offers will allow you to recognize if it is a real offer or not, and thus avoid sharing personal information.
Among the most common signs are:
- When they ask you for a certain amount of money to continue with the selection process.
- When the economic remuneration is higher than the average offered in the market, in some cases the salary can be double or triple what is usual.
- The vacancy is posted through an unreliable source.
- The vacancy does not offer specific information on the requirements or the activities to be carried out.
However, false job offers saw their growth after almost 1.2 million formal jobs disappeared in Mexico as a result of the pandemic.
On August 12, 2020, almost five months after the confinement derived from the Covid-19 contingency began, the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) announced that This health crisis disappeared almost 1.2 million formal jobs in Mexico, when adding the falls of 83 thousand 311 positions in June; 344 thousand 526 in May; 555 thousand 247 in April; and 198 thousand 033 between March 13 and 31.
On the other hand, the Mexican Internet Association (AIMX) recorded that that same year an increase in the trend of cybernauts who looked for work through social networks, going from 2 percent in 2019 to 54 percent in 2020. However, Internet job board sites were not displaced, capturing 84 percent of preferences among job seekers in 2020.
In accordance with Nevertheless, through a survey, those interested in these job offers highlighted, from highest to lowest, in a list of preferences that an ideal job vacancy should offer, first, ease of applying, with 77 percent; in second place that the company is known and reliable, with 70 percent; and in third place that the company that publishes is of quality, with 65 percent.
Given this increase in preferences to seek employment in Mexico, the authorities warned about the spread of false job offers.
How to know the truth?
According to the user @tayliberato, sometimes these job proposals can be spread through advertisements with attractive texts, which are disclosed in public places, although, in recent years, groups have also been used on social networks and non-regulated Internet pages (pages that do not supervise the contents published on them) to promote them.

If the vacancy has more than these points, doubt it:
- Its origin is doubtful. If the job is circulating on social media or email, it’s likely a fraud. Normally, a serious company does not make direct contact through their social chat accounts.
- Too good to be true. Offering high wages, flexible hours, or inflated benefits can be a sign of fraud. Moreover, if you do not look for the company, but rather they contact you and after a brief interview they give you the position, it is very likely that it is a scam.
- Vague job requirements. When the job requirements are ambiguous or too simple, it is time to be suspicious, because a real job has defined the profile of the employee and what functions they are going to perform.
- Emails with errors. Spelling errors, punctuation errors and lack of identification with the company such as including telephone number, address and institutional email reveal that the company is unreliable.
- They request personal data. If in the recruitment process you are asked for personal data such as social security numbers, bank account or if the interview is carried out only by instant messaging services, do not provide these data
It should be said that traffickers study the wishes and shortcomings of the people they intend to recruit (it is important to mention that when we talk about shortcomings, we are not only referring to those of an economic nature, we can also highlight affective ones such as affection, and those of recognition such as fame, etc.), once the aspirations of the people have been identified, they persuade them through speeches and actions that form a bond of trust between the victim and the trafficker.
