It’s official: The 2023 Emmy Awards will be postponed for four months. In the midst of the actors’ and writers’ strikes that are taking place right now in Hollywood, it was announced that the ceremony celebrating the best of American television will be moved to Monday. January 15, 2024 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT. The 75th Emmy Awards were originally going to be held on September 18.
The Fox network and the United States Television Academy chose that date because it is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a holiday that makes it easier to hold the event on a non-weekend date in January. It is worth remembering that this month is already full of ceremonies for the best of film and television, such as the Screen Actors Guild awards, the Critics Choice Awards or the Golden Globes; as well as sporting events such as playoffs of the NFL. On the other hand, the Creative Arts Emmy Awards will be moved to Saturday, January 6 and Sunday, January 7, 2023 (they were scheduled for September 9 and 10).
It was last July 28 when Variety reported that the Television Academy contacted the vendors who provide their services for the transmission of the ceremony about the delayed decision. In the same way, they spoke with producers and other people involved in the realization of the event.

Now, the effect of the stoppages of activities is already perceived in larger events, since the award ceremonies count as promotion of the projects. This is something that both unions prohibit performers and writers while suspending work.
The Academy issued a statement in July in which it ruled on the protests within the industry. There, it reads the following:
“Like the rest of the industry, we hope there is a fair and timely resolution for all parties in the current union negotiations. We continue to closely monitor the situation with our partners at Fox and will let you know if any updates are available.”
Strikes by the union of actors (SAG-AFTRA) and screenwriters (WGA) have resulted in a large number of delays for the development of film and television projects. Until now, this had only been reflected in release calendars.

Jose Roberto Landaverde I love writing, listening, reading and commenting on everything related to cinema. I love music and am a fan of The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac and Paramore. My favorite movies are Rocky and Back to the Future and obviously one day I’ll climb the “Philly Steps” and drive a DeLorean. Faithful believer that cinema is the best teleportation machine, and also that on the big screen we can all see ourselves represented.
