Life for any healthcare professional encompasses much more than providing care to patients. Recreational activities outside working hours are also highly relevant because they serve as food for the emotional part. But something that should never be forgotten is that in any scenario there are always risks to face. In fact, a retired doctor starred in a tragic story while trying to climb Mount Everest.
The contrast of retirement in doctors
In the first instance, one of the greatest desires of any worker is to be able to retire to enjoy old age in the best possible way. For decades one must work to be able to meet the requirements to have a decent retirement.
In the case of doctors, having to say goodbye to their daily life is complicated and some even prefer to continue with their professional activities despite being of advanced age. Sometimes they stay in the same work space or start their own business in the private sector.
One of the drawbacks of not wanting to abandon professional life is that it affects the new generations in a collateral way. Young people want to get a place but many times they don’t get it because there are no places available.
On the other hand, there are cases such as Mexico where there is a severe shortage of medical specialists. Even recently, the federal government launched a recruitment call for already retired doctors to return to work. This seeks to get as many elements as possible to offer care to the population, especially those in rural areas.
