We tell you when the baby begins to dream and the phases it goes through as the weeks go by.
Inside the mother’s womb, the baby experiences a totally new world of sensations and, in addition, responds to external stimuli, even dreams.
From the 28th week the baby’s sleep phases can be differentiated: interspersed moments of calm, in which his heart beats more slowly and his body rests, with others of movement. These times of activity and calm come and go without there being a regularity in this alternation.
The mother’s hormonal secretions, the amount of glucose provided by her blood and even her rhythm of life are considered to influence these periods of tranquility and agitation.
When do you start to have active sleep?
From the 30th week on, there is active sleep, equivalent to adult REM sleep , which is the phase in which most dreams develop.
Around the eighth month, the little one begins to alternate phases of restless sleep and relaxed sleep regularly. During the first few, his eyes “flutter” under his eyelids and he gestures repeatedly. Recording these electrical phenomena confirms that your brain is fully active.
This circumstance allows us to affirm that in the uterus the baby has all the necessary instruments to dream: an adequate electrical brain activity and the presence of stimuli that would constitute its contents.
