Changes are coming for Call of Duty: Vanguard with Season 4 on the horizon. Activision gave fans a breakdown of everything to come in the new season, known as Mercenaries of Fortune, including new multiplayer maps for Vanguard, such as USS Texas 1945, a round-based zombie mode set in Shi No Numa , and a variety of new operators, weapons and game modes available.
Naturally, Season 4 also contains new packs for those who want to spend a little real money. However, Season 4 arguably brings some of the biggest changes to Call of Duty: Warzone. Maps have always been an important component of the experience, and fans have certainly had mixed opinions when moving from Verdansk to Verdansk 84, and more recently to the completely different Caldera.
With Mercenaries of Fortune, Warzone receives another brand new map created by High Moon Studios called Fortune’s Keep. Interestingly, the initial reveal had fans worried that Rebirth Island would be retired in favor of Fortune’s Keep. Nevertheless, Raven Software has confirmed that Warzone will not lose any maps, but will rotate.
Players will see Fortune’s Keep, Rebirth Island, and Caldera, as well as a selection of game modes such as Golden Plunder, rotate in a weekly playlist, beginning in full on June 30. The first week of the season will only feature Caldera and Fortune’s Keep.
This is the first time Call of Duty: Warzone will rotate through a selection of maps. In fact, the final week of Season 4 adds a new twist, as at 10AM PST, the playlist will switch between Fortune’s Keep and Rebirth Island.
This measure seems to follow in the footsteps of Apex Legends, one of its Battle Royale rivals in which public matches are rotated between three maps every 60-90 minutes.
