The rainy season has started and promises to stay for a few months. While the city often becomes chaotic during this period, coming home and having to deal with leaks or damp is quite annoying.
In this sense, Several Mexican families decide to prevent themselves and waterproof their roofs to avoid these imperfections. However, there are some brands on the market that are not as ‘immune’ to water as they claim.
The Federal Consumer Attorney’s Office (Profeco), evaluated 15 elastomeric waterproofing from 14 different brands within category 3A (three-year warranty) in 19-liter buckets. We share the results.

To carry out the tests and thus qualify these substances, Profeco took several points to consider: consumer information and guarantee, water absorption, shelf stability, water vapor permeability, viscosity, tensile strength and flexibility at low temperatures. .
Among the best evaluated products (that obtained an ‘E’ rating for ‘excellent’) for complying with the tests were:
- Pass white Aislaflex (with a market price of $2,078 Mexican pesos)
- Acriterm white aquarium (with a market price of $871 Mexican pesos)
- White Xeteron (with a market price of $842 Mexican pesos)
- White Voller Imper Voll (with a market price of $1,051 Mexican pesos)
- White Volton Impervol (with a market price of $1,090 Mexican pesos)
- Fester Acriton Pro Shield white (with a market price of $2,915 Mexican pesos)
Those evaluated with ‘VG’ (Very Good) were:
- Itum Super coat white (with a market price of $700 Mexican pesos)
- Arva Tradicional white (with a market price of $856 Mexican pesos)
- Thermo Tek Imper white (with a market price of $1,074 Mexican pesos)
- Imperquimia Elaston 4 white double action (with a market price of $1,842 Mexican pesos)
- Comex Quick Dry Top plus (with a market price of $1,957 Mexican pesos)
The waterproofing that had a ‘B’ (Good) rating were:
- White umbrella (with a market price of $835 Mexican pesos)
- Osel White waterproofing 1612Q (with a market price of $1,083 Mexican pesos)
- Sika Acril White Roof (with a market price of $1,546 Mexican pesos)
- Fester A white (with a market price of $787 Mexican pesos)
Those who did not comply
To begin with, the Attorney General’s Office exposed the products without guarantee, which are Fester A and Sika Acril Techo. Meanwhile, Fester Acriton Pro Shield offers a ‘conditional guarantee’. It is delivered in writing about the waterproof system applied only by a specialist from its network of authorized dealers.
Finally, in the wet adhesion category, several waterproofing ‘failed’ because they came off when using a lower force than that set by NMX-C-450-ONNCCE-2019. These were:
