the display “A Cauduro is a Cauduro (is a Cauduro)” is one of the most relevant exhibitions within the 2022 cultural agenda in Mexico City, also celebrating 100 years of muralism in Mexico, after its inauguration on February 24, it will remain open to the public until June 26, 2022. In In this exhibition you will find more than 156 works of art with the artist’s own style and techniques, many of them never before exhibited and belonging to his personal collection.
The title of the exhibition is intentionally repetitive, and this is not a coincidence at all. alesha marketcurator of the exhibition, explains that “A Cauduro is a Cauduro (is a Cauduro)” refers to the most famous aphorism of the renowned American poet, Gertrude Stein, who wrote “Rose is a rose, is a rose” in the poem “Sacred Emily”, and as in Stein’s phrase, to all those who visit the College of San Ildefonso to discover the creations of Raphael Cauduro there will be no doubt that A Cauduro is a Cauduro (he is a Cauduro).
cauduro is the author of Insurgentes subway muralentitled “Underground Scenes”as well as the mural titled “The condominium”located in Veracruz Avenue on the Colonia Rome. Like his most iconic work and probably one of the most controversial, the one carried out on the main staircase of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, “The 7 Major Crimes”where the artist shaped inside the enclosure a reminder for all those who seek justice in our country, about what can happen in a nation in which the rights and security of people are not sought, representing the 7 Major Crimes in the history of justice in Mexico. It is precisely because of these murals that many recognize him as the last great muralist of the tradition begun by José Vasconcelos a century ago.
