We tell you what step by step how to bathe your baby and the points where you should pay special attention
Bathing your baby can be one of the most memorable moments for us as parents, as well as very relaxing for the little ones; however, at least when you are a first-time dad, it can fill you with doubts and concerns about how to bathe him. Although it is something you can feel during the first days when you take your little one home, it is always important to take some precautions and do it properly. Therefore, here we leave you this quick guide.
1. The specialists indicate that during the first days of your baby’s life it is not recommended to bathe him in a tub. It is best to clean it with a damp sponge until the umbilical cord falls out. Gently dab the sponge and be especially careful with your face and genitals.
2. Once your baby’s umbilical cord has fallen and you want to bathe it, the most comfortable and safest way is to use a bathtub for little ones that you can put on a high and resistant surface. Also, this allows you to be in a more comfortable position.
3. Before starting the bath, prepare everything you require. Remember to use a special baby soap that does not irritate your skin. Have your towel or blanket ready with which you will dry it gently. Use a small cup or container to pour water over your baby’s body.
4. The bathtub should not have more than 5 or 7 cm of lukewarm water (around 32 degrees Celsius). It considers that the little ones are more susceptible to the temperature of the water during their first months. Be very careful!
5. Place the bathtub in a room where there are no drafts or is too narrow for them to move freely. Take your baby and undress him a few moments before bathing him.
6. In the bathtub, use one of your hands to support his neck and head, while the other constantly pour a little water so that it does not get cold. Wash your body with your own hand or a washcloth, spraying it from top to bottom and front to back.
7. Use very little soap (if you decide to use it) and very gently clean your face, genitals and the rest of the body. Rinse by pouring the water and on the complicated parts use a small wipe to gently clean it.
8. Before removing it from the tub you can use a small cloth or wipe to dry it. Then wrap it in a larger towel and remember not to rub it to dry, as it can irritate your skin. If it is already dry, it is recommended to leave it a few minutes without clothes before applying any moisturizing cream, if required. Ready!
