It’s been over a month and still Turkey and Syria They continue to recover from the terrible earthquake that shook it and left thousands of human and material losses, causing millions of people to be homeless. From all parts of the world, both nations received support and different forms of help and now it has been Qatar who shipped 4,000 housing cabins that were built to house fans at last year’s World Cup to earthquake survivors in Turkey and Syria, authorities said Monday.
Associated Press reported watching the last batch of manufactured homes being loaded onto a ship in the Persian Gulf. The Qatar Development Fund began sending out huts last month and says it will send a total of 10,000 to house people displaced by the February 6 earthquake.
These cabins were used to house fans during the soccer event and it was always planned that they would be donated once the World Cup ended.
The authorities of Qatar, which is one of the richest countries in the world, pointed out that these cabins were always thought to be donated once the FIFA event was over. They served to house some of the 1.4 million fans who came to the small country last year to celebrate the biggest sporting event in the world.
The brightly colored, thin-walled cabins were designed to accommodate one or two people with twin beds, a nightstand, small table and chair, air conditioning, an indoor toilet and shower. They were around $200 a night, $270 with board, offering a cheap option for visitors.
It’s been a little over a month since a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Turkey and Syria on February 6, killing more than 52,000 people, the vast majority of whom were in Turkey. More than 200,000 structures in that country have collapsed or suffered severe damage, leaving millions of people homeless.
