PUBG Mobilethe free to play battle royale video game developed by LightSpeed & Quantum Studio, a division of Tencent Games, has reached a new milestone, surpassing $9 billion in total consumer spending.
In addition, according to Sensor Tower, quoted in a report published on the website of Venture BeatApp Store and Google Play users have installed the game 1.1 billion times and spent an average of $5.2 million per day.
PUBG Mobile launched in March 2018, just a year after its PC beta launched on Steam. The Tencent title benefited from being the first major PC-based battle royale to make the leap to the mobile platform.
Fortnite, meanwhile, launched on iOS about two weeks later, but it’s no longer on the App Store. This probably benefited PUBG, which currently competes with Free Fire.
Other PUGB Mobile figures
The report also recalls that the recent recession in the mobile video game market affected PUBG Mobile, beyond its successful figures.
In the first three quarters of 2022, gamers downloaded PUBG Mobile 104.4 million times and spent a total of $1.6 billion. Both metrics fell about 27 percent compared to the same period in 2021, in which Tencent posted $142 million and $2.2 billion respectively.
Sensor Tower’s review does not include BattleGrounds Mobile India (BGMI), the country-only version of PUBG Mobile. This is likely due to the various government bans that have hindered the growth of the app and explains why it is currently not available for download.
