One of the great merits of the recently released Psychonauts 2 is that, more than 15 years after the premiere of its first installment, Double fine has been able to reunite the original voice actors for them to return to interpret Raz and company, in addition to having star guests as Jack Black, who voices a supporting character and performs one of the songs from its soundtrack. The downside is that if you are not an English speaker, you will not find dubbing in another language and the reason is lack of time or budget, assures the study.
“We would love to add more languages to Psychonauts 2, and we are investigating to see if that could be possible sometime in the future«, assures Double Fine Community Manager James Spafford on the gaming community forums. «As a script, this is the biggest game we’ve ever created and adding even an additional language would require a lot of work and a lot of budget additional that we currently do not have. Adding languages that use completely different alphabets and have other considerations is an even bigger job. We may get that chance, and we really hope we do, but we can’t make any promisesAnd we couldn’t do it in time for launch, either.
Keep in mind that Psychonauts 2 began humbly as a independent game that went ahead through crowdfunding before the Microsoft’s acquisition of Double Fine and the publication of the game through Xbox Games Studios, so it is not known for sure when the decision to focus on a single language came, or where the investment that Microsot made in the game was directed. Likewise, Microsoft has been in the focus of controversy regarding the location of their games to other languages, just a few days ago it confirmed that Halo mInfinite will arrive dubbed into Spanish.
Psychonauts 2 is available from the past August 25th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, PS4, PS5 (backward compatible) and PC. Despite not being bent, the game has a great localization of texts both in dialogues and in objects and posters. Check out our Psychonauts 2 review for all the details on Tim Schaffer’s new game.
